Sample Schedule

Meet Micah Fialka-Feldman, a member of the Think College Advisory Committee and a college student in Michigan.

In many ways, Micah enjoys a typical life: making friends, participating in college activities, and volunteering in the community and in politics. Less typically, he travels the country speaking. But for all of his life, there have been people telling him that he could not have a regular life. Micah has a cognitive disability.  And he attends college.  His schedule for the Spring 2009 semester provides a good example of what college life can look like.

Monday

  • 7:30--9:20 Take public buses to Oakland University campus
  • 9:20--10:00 Hangout in the Oakland Center
  • 10:00-11:47 Psychology 250 Introduction to Research Design
  • 11:47--2:00 Hangout in the Oakland Center and eat lunch (talk to friends, work on the computer, go on Facebook, check out what's happening on campus)
  • 2:00--4:00 Work out at the Oakland gym
  • 4:00 4:30 Walk to the YMCA
  • 4:30--5:30 Volunteer at the YMCA in the child care center
  • 5:30--7:30 Hangout with my friend and she drives me home

Tuesday

  • 7:30--9:20 Take public buses to OU campus
  • 9:20--10:00 Hangout in the Oakland Center
  • 10:00-11:47 Theatre 100 Intro to Theatre
  • 11:47--1:00 Hangout in the Oakland Center and eat lunch
  • 1:00-2:47 Com 385 Multiculturalism
  • 3:00--4:30 Work out at the gym or hangout in the Oakland Center
  • 4:30 Drive home with a friend

Wednesday

  • 7:30--9:20 Take public buses to Oakland University campus
  • 9:20--10:00 Hangout in the Oakland Center
  • 10:00-11:47 Psychology 250 Introduction to Research Design
  • 11:47--2:30 Hangout in the Oakland Center and eat lunch and volunteer at the Student Activity Center
  • 2:30--4:30 Hangout with my friend on campus
  • 4:30 Go to my friend Mike’s apartment on campus to spend night-- Watch T.V. and movies and eat dinner

Thursday

  • 9:20-- 10:00 Walk to class
  • 10:00-11:47 Theatre 100 Intro to Theatre
  • 11:47--1:00 Hangout in the Oakland Center and go to Hillel meeting on campus
  • 1:00--2:47 Com 385 Multiculturalism
  • 2:47--3:30 Check email
  • 3:30-4:30 Walk to the YMCA
  • 4:30--5:30 Volunteer at the YMCA
  • 5:30--7:30 Hang out with my friend and she drives me home. Some evenings we go shopping for clothes, volunteer with our fraternity Alpha Phi Omega, attend on campus events, work on homework.

Friday

  • 7:30--9:20 Take public buses to OU campus
  • 9:20--10:00 Hangout in the Oakland Center
  • 10:00--11:47 Psychology 250 Introduction to Research Design
  • 12:00--1:00 Meet with program advisor

Sunday

  • 5:00pm--6:45 Alpha Phi Omega Meeting
