College Search Annual Update: Here's What's New

US map showing number of programs in each state

Families and students often ask us, “Where can I find out about postsecondary education options?” We have the answer: College Search. Think College is home to the only directory of college programs for students with intellectual disability in the United States.

It is important that this resource stays up to date for students conducting a college search, which is why each year we ask college and university programs to confirm or update their information annually.  Programs are sent a link to a survey with all their information and have the opportunity to update in every category.

We just concluded the 2024 update, and we wanted to call your attention to some things we noticed.

Information you can trust
Nearly all the records in College Search have been recently updated. This year, 70% of programs submitted updates, and over 80% updated last year. A big thank you to the program staff who took the time to fill out the survey and share the most current information! To see when a listing was last updated, look for the last updated date right under their program description. We love seeing all the listings reflecting 2024. Programs, you can make updates anytime during the year. - there is no need to wait until the annual update - reach out to us when things change.

New programs are added frequently
As a result of this update, 10 new programs have been added to the listing. Additionally, a few were removed as they were not a good fit for the directory, and two programs reported they had closed. After the dust settled, we jumped from a total of 315 programs in February of 2023 to 332 programs in February 2024 – an increase of 17 programs!  Check the map graphic in this article to see where in the country those changes occured.

Growth in community college options
There are more programs at community colleges than ever before.  Thirty-six of the community college programs are approved Comprehensive Transition Postsecondary (CTP) programs.

Programs are offering a variety of types of credentials
We collect information on all the kinds of credentials and certifications students can earn in the programs, and more programs are listing a variety of options that are available.
